About Defence Executive
Defence Executive is a specialist executive search and recruitment firm focused on the defence industry. We work with defence manufacturers, suppliers, dual-use technology companies and defence-adjacent advanced technology firms in Sweden and the Nordics โ not with armed forces or public authorities.
In short
- A specialist search firm for the defence industry, based in Sweden.
- Executive search for leadership roles, specialist search for scarce technical and commercial competence.
- Few assignments at a time, each run by a senior consultant from brief to onboarding.
- Right people. Right missions. Real impact.
Why the firm exists
Nordic defence demand changed faster than the industry's ability to staff it. Companies that had recruited a handful of engineers a year suddenly needed to build organisations, and international companies that had treated the Nordics as an export market began establishing locally.
Generalist recruitment struggles with this. It cannot read the difference between a sensor programme and a platform programme, it advertises roles that cannot be advertised, and it presents candidates who look credible on paper to anyone who has not worked in the industry.
Defence Executive was built to close that gap: a search firm that knows the industrial landscape, the procurement logic and the actual people in it.
How we work
- Few assignments at a time, each led by a senior consultant
- Research-led search โ we map the market and approach people directly
- No advertising and no database matching as a substitute for search
- A short, argued longlist rather than a volume of candidates
- Structured interviews, referencing and background checks
- Involvement through offer, notice period and onboarding
We turn down assignments where we do not believe the role, the package or the market will allow us to deliver. Saying so at the start is more useful than a search that quietly fails.
Industry understanding
We have worked with companies including Elbit, Getac, Mastsystem International, Bertin Exensor, KNL, dSPACE, Carmenta, Safran and Graphmatec โ international entrants, established suppliers and technology companies moving into the defence space.
That work covers air, land, maritime, sensors, C4ISR, communications, components and services, which is what allows us to be specific about which experience transfers between them and which does not.
Confidentiality and conduct
Most of our assignments are confidential. We do not name clients without permission, we do not circulate candidate information beyond the client, and we do not approach people we have placed.
Candidates get the same standard: an honest description of the role and its constraints, including vetting, nationality or export-control requirements where they apply, and a straight answer when they are not the right fit.
